Building Your Lead Magnet 101

Yay! So, you’ve decided to finally build that lead magnet you’ve been putting off… let me tell you, it’s one of the BEST ways to get traffic to your website and build your email list! Building your lead magnet involves creating a valuable (heavy on the valuable) resource that you offer to your audience, typically in exchange for their email address. PS: you want to get that email address! Guess what? I’ve made it so easy for you. I’ve listed a step-by-step guide below to help you build an effective lead magnet that is sure to convert your subscribers to actual paying clients who can’t wait to hear from you 😌

1. Understand your audience 👥

Before creating your lead magnet, it's crucial to understand your target audience's needs, pain points, and interests. WHO are you talking to? Who’s your ideal client? Talk to THEM and fix THEIR problems. You aren’t going to be for everyone and that’s OK! And, if you’re trying to talk to everyone, who exactly is going to resonate with this resource? Think about things like this when coming up with ideas ⛅️

2. Choose a relevant topic ✍🏼

I mean, we’ve gotta stay on track here, so choose something that aligns with your audience's interests and addresses a specific problem or challenge they're facing. Make sure the topic is relevant to your products or services. (Ex: If you design websites, create a free mini template they can download or offer a few page description of the 5 best things to include on your home page) WINNER 🌟

3. Craft a strong call to action 📢

Clearly communicate the valueyep, there’s that word again… of your lead magnet and incentivize your audience to take action. Use strong copy in your CTA and encourage them to subscribe to your email list in exchange for downloading. Make it fun and personable, not sales-y. Let them know how cool it will be to get emails from you 😎 I know it will but they don’t!

4. Promote your new offer 💻

Promote your lead magnet on your website, blog, social media, email newsletters… wherever you can! Make sure to talk about WHY you created it and WHO it’s for. Again, we want to get them excited to not only opt in and download the lead magnet, but to STAY and engage in your email list. Everything goes back to the building value part 🔨

5. Follow-up with email sequences 💌

This is where your solid email marketing strategy will come into place! Once someone subscribes to your email list, deliver the lead magnet promptly and follow up with a series of email sequences to nurture the relationship, provide additional value, and guide them to different offers and services you can provide for them so they will want to work with you 💛
